Our Love Story
We became friends in high school. Ricky was close friends with Katie’s older brother Chris and that’s how we got acquainted. After we both graduated high school, we went our separate ways but a handful of years later, we reconnected through Facebook. Hour long chats led to the development of feelings for each other. At the time, Ricky was working the overnight shift at Stop and Shop and finding time to coordinate schedules was tough! We finally agreed to meet for breakfast to celebrate Ricky’s birthday in 2015. We went to Lucy & Ethels in Bloomingdale, NJ and hit it off immediately.
In the beginning, it was hard to find time to spend together. But, after Ricky was offered a daytime position, we found lots more time to spend together. We enjoyed going out to eat, spending time with family and friends, visiting Turtle Back Zoo and so many more activities. More than lovers, we became each other’s best friend.
After three years of dating Ricky found the courage to ask Katie’s parents for her hand in marriage. They happily gave their blessing. Ricky and Katie had plans to go visit Katie’s sister in Kansas in early November, 2018, and Ricky hatched his proposal plans. He took Katie on a walk to a local park in Tracy’s neighborhood, where he got down on his knee and proposed. She eagerly said YES!!! And she was almost knocked unconscious by a hedge apple, but that’s a story for another day…
The wedding planning began and the festivities were all set. We were looking forward to one of the most important days of our lives, surrounded by our families and closest friends. Then, happiness came to a halt on Monday, March 16th, 2020. Four days before our original wedding date, the governor of New Jersey canceled all large gatherings. Although we had their hearts set on the wedding date we first picked, the health and safety of their guests meant more to us and we decided to postpone.
We could have had a very small ceremony any time over the last year but we wanted to celebrate our marriage with everyone we love most! We are thrilled that we are able to finally have our wedding day now and can’t wait to make our marriage official!
